ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint to capture disappearing moments.

The last rays of sunlight dancing across the pacific. The play of shadows across a trail. The hunch of small shoulders as feet meet a cool rush of river. The familiar weight of a toddler on a mother’s hip and the absentminded comfort they find leaning into her. Children moving through nature like murmuring starlings—echoing the shapes and energy of each other and the landscape around them.

These moments carry a quiet, luminous, intimacy; an energy that shifts almost as soon as it is felt. It is capturing this fleetingness that draws me back to the studio again and again.

BIO

Dominique is a West Coast oil painter inspired by the untamed beauty of her North Shore home where she continually explores forests, mountains, and shoreline landscapes. She studied at Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design and, after several years working professionally as a designer, returned to teach in the same program. She now splits her time teaching and painting out of her Lynn Valley home studio.

A fourth-generation artist, Dominique comes from a lineage of female figurative and landscape painters known as the Everard Group, whose work is held in private collections worldwide and in national galleries of South Africa. Building on this legacy, Dominique’s own award winning work is represented in corporate and private collections internationally.

She is currently represented by Adele Campbell Gallery in Whistler and The Curated home in Calgary.
